14 September 2020

Global Water Partnership, together with partners and contributors from all over the world, has just launched a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Governance for Transboundary Freshwater Security. The topics covered in six modules range from transboundary water security to international water law, water diplomacy, negotiations, institutions, management tools and sustainable finance.

The course is free, self-paced and open to anyone interested!

Designing a MOOC is a team effort and great learning experience

My role in the MOOC process evolved throughout the project. I started as an unpaid intern tasked with editing lecture and case study videos, but by the end I was working as a consultant and in charge of asset management for the whole course. I also took part in the material collection, review and outreach processes.

Through different challenges and breakthroughs, I learned a great deal about large-scale project management and exponentially improved my video editing skills. Still, the greatest part has been to work in an incredible team and communicate with contributors throughout the whole process. What makes this MOOC unique is the way it brings together 80 experts from all over the world, demonstrating the vast possibilities of modern technology and global networks.

I hope you enjoy the course!

Erik Salminen – has an M.Sc. (Tech) from Aalto in Water and Environmental Engineering. Currently working as a consultant for Global Water Partnership and Field Specialist for Finnish Consulting Group (FCG). Main interests are water diplomacy and transboundary water cooperation.
